The Departed is Shakespeare

Last weekend I saw The Departed, quite possibly the best movie in the past 3, no, no 5 years. Depending on who you talk to my opinions and critics of movies are in left field, but this movie simply delivered on all counts for me. Hard to believe since it didn’t have Keanu Reeves in it. 😉

However, like all gangster movies, it’s a rehash of Shakespeare. Boy/girl feuding families and in the end everyone dies. But seriously, it’s a freakin blast the whole way, if you don’t mind blood and the F-bomb being dropped every other sentence.

Blu-Ray Delay

Boy, that just has a cool ring to it, unfortunately it spells bad news for those looking to get Sony’s first standalone player. For the third time the BDP-S1 Blu-ray Disc player launch will be postponed until December or possibly even sometime in 2007. eeek!?

According to, the problem comes from supplies, rather than an actual problem with the hardware. Sounds like the same thing to me and is clearly steering more and more each day toward an HD-DVD player. Sony has been screwing up more than I like to see lately, especially since they closed down Lik-Sang.

Streaming Media Center to 360

I’ve completed my installation and configuration of my XP MCE 2005 OS and communicated with the 360 in my living room. The process was very simple, once I got MCE to install properly…damn usenet kiddies. 😉 However, my install is through a wireless home network, so I hope to see how the quality is to stream HD.

I’ve already tested a few small clips from the Matrix 1080i and experienced some pretty harsh particle effects. I’m hoping by tweaking my wireless connection and making sure my PC is running at open resources I can achieve a fairly close to perfect HD experience. In that vein, I’ve subscribed to a new newsgroup, alt.binaries.hdtv. 😉

If anyone has any questions, comments, or concerns about my project please feel free to leave a comment.

Verizon LG Lock Password

I’m an idiot, I know I’m an idiot, but damn’t I was reminded again this morning of how stupid I can be sometimes. To make a long story short, I bought a used cell phone off of ebay, because my old phone decided it could swim. The used phone off of ebay worked great, until I locked the keys and needed a password to unlock them.

I contacted the seller, which dealt with all kinds of phones…so they had no idea. I went to a Verizon kiosk in the mall, they told me there was nothing they could do. So, finally I managed to go to the main store in my city and talk with their technical service area.

To unlock your Verizon phone, your password is the last 4 digits of your phone number. doh!?

Nails New Dog

That’s right, I finally went against everything I ever stood for, broke down, and brought home a dog. I adopted it 3 days ago at the local humane society and the bitch has already cost me over $100. oh well, she’s a sweet heart and is already trained. 😉

Her original name was Baby, but my wife didn’t care for it too much, therefore we compromised with Baby Coco. lol For what it’s worth this has got to be one of the sweetest dogs alive, she loves car rides, and sleeping next to me while I work on the computer. But, enough about the boring shit, here come the dog pictures.

Nails Netflix Review

As many of you know, I’m an advocate for p2p, therefore my movie and music collection is quite impressive. However, as of late I have gained an interest in Netflix and decided to give it a go. Although my experience with them may not be typical, it is what can happen with mail-order movies.

I selected the 3 movies at a time free trial, which seemed to be what I would choose if I were paying. The first few weeks went off without a hitch, but soon I reached a bump in the service when I received an incorrectly labeled DVD. Per Netflix directions I notified them via their online form of the mishap, I was then instructed to return the movie as normal.

A few days later I was expecting my next batch of 3 movies, however I only received 2. Apparently, processing time takes longer whenver there is an error in their service. At this time it is unclear when I will receive my next DVD, although I have returned all that were sent. Because of the error Netflix made, my service is hurt and I’m not receiving what I paid for….if my I were not on free trial. We’ll see how long this takes whether or not I will subscribe to their service.

Back From the Smokeys

This past week I spent from Saturday to Saturday down in the Smokey Mountains. While there I got hitched, ate, drank, and was merry. Everything was done, was done at the pace my wife and I wanted. Therefore, the wedding lasted 8 mins and the rest of the time was spent chillin and hanging with the handful of friends that attended.

In addition, we managed to visit WonderWorks, an educational and hands on activity center. There were plenty of flight simulators, virtual reality machines, and neat little tests that you could do. Truly a good time, but now I’m back to what I do best….surfing.

So, look forward to more daily updates and a general good feeling.
