Bulk Update Pricing in Shopify

Short answer, not possible, long answer, App developers are working on it. But what does this mean right now, for those of us with Shopify ecommerce stores looking to update pricing for the new year? It means we have two options, either do it by hand manually on each product, or subscribe to a $7.99 per month Shopify App.

Short answer, not possible, long answer, App developers are working on it.  But what does this mean right now, for those of us with Shopify ecommerce stores looking to update pricing for the new year?  It means we have two options, either do it by hand manually on each product, or subscribe to a $7.99 per month Shopify App.

Shopify Bulk Pricing Update App

Shopify Assistant is currently the only App that I’ve found that allows bulk pricing updates.  It highlights the ability to swap inventory among collections and bulk update pricing by percentage or set dollar figure.  In addition, it allows the update to be made into a task, so that you can schedule a price change.

Please note, there are some reviews that mention bugs, like a continually running task.  So while not as automated or integrated as I’d like to see, it’d have to do and well worth the price if you have thousands of products that need to have their prices changed.

My Solution

Thankfully I only have around 60 products in my store, so for peace of mind I’ll do the pricing update manually.  I’ve done this in the past and as long as you tackle the project prepared, it can be completed fairly quickly.

First thing I do is create a print out of all of my products, with current prices and future price.  I have all the details at hand, in the order that they appear in my Shopify Product listing admin.  I then go down the line, confirming price changes and marking off adjustments on my list.  That way no product goes unchanged.

Lastly, make sure to confirm that your Google Shopping feed has been updated.  This is usually automatic, if you are using the Shopify App, but still needs to be verified.

My Suggestion to Shopify

For the price, Shopify does a lot, but things like bulk price updates should be included.  Perhaps even add it to your list of plans.  Free bulk pricing updates for <50 products, then the next tier could include bulk pricing updates for <200, and the top tier pricing for unlimited products.  I’d much rather use a Shopify solution than a 3rd party App from the Shopify App store.
