Steal My RSS Feed

Where has RSS footer been all my life?

Two years ago I had a wildly successful video game system blog that generated great traffic, but most of my content was constantly getting stolen.  Black hat sites and the like would take my RSS feed and build thin affiliate sites out of them, with of course no link back to me.  Attempting to get my content removed was a waste of time.

Now I've been using RSS footer on some of my niche blogs and it works GREAT.  RSS Footer is a wordpress plugin that will automatically add a link to your site at the bottom of each post, with the option of adding a link back to the specific post, complete with anchor text.  The features are customizable and you can even add bits of html code, to be displayed in your RSS feed only.

No longer will I have to worry about people stealing my content via RSS, as a matter of fact I want people to use it.  Generating links has never been easier for my niche content blogs and I'm hoping to really start feeling the SEO love before too long.

I Type Over 100 Words Per Minute

I always figured by the stares of other office workers that I typed some what speedy, but apparently I can consistently break the 100 words per minute.

108 words

Typingtest

The free typing test above ranked me at #2535 over all with 108 correct words and 0 mistakes.  Not too shabby considering there have been over 563,158 tests taken.

Where do you stand?

DRM Is Like…

Digital Rights Management (DRM) is being tossed onto PC games left and right despite a huge back lash on the interwebs.  So, how can I describe what DRM is to the common person?  Below is a list of what I would compare DRM to.

DRM is like...

  • building a house on your own property, but having to call the supplier of the lumber for permission to walk in at the end of the day.
  • buying a car but needing permission from the dealer before you let your friend drive it.
  • not being able to sell junk on ebay.
  • not getting a good review on Amazon.com
  • looking at an attractive young woman only to find out she had a sex change at 12.
  • having Chris Hanson tell you to have a seat over there.
  • being rick rolled while looking for porn.

and lastly

  • legally purchasing a product to support the industry and manufacturer only to be treated like a criminal.

I know there are others,  but these were on my mind when I woke up this morning.  Please feel free to add your own below.

Emma’s First Birthday Party

My daughter turned one last Thursday, so on Sunday we had a big get together for her.  All in all there were a total of 31 people at my small house, with a few activties going on and Emma being passed around between everyone.  There was some corn hole playing, lots of cake eating, and of course taking turns playing with Emma and her new toys outside.

I know Emma won't remember it, but we have plenty of pictures and video to remind her when she is old enough.  We are truly blessed that so many people care and love her amongst our family and friends.

Will Chrome Incognito Kill Affiliates

This is my first post using Google Chrome and first impressions are a little lacking and one feature has me just freaking out.  There is an 'Incognito' feature that provides a safe and secure browsing experience for the user, but it also destroys any cookie's after the window is closed, BAD for affiliate marketers.

You've gone incognito. Pages you view in this window won't appear in your browser history or search history, and they won't leave other traces, like cookies, on your computer after you close the incognito window. Any files you download or bookmarks you create will be preserved, however.

Going incognito doesn't affect the behavior of other people, servers, or software. Be wary of:

  • Websites that collect or share information about you
  • Internet service providers or employers that track the pages you visit
  • Malicious software that tracks your keystrokes in exchange for free smileys
  • Surveillance by secret agents
  • People standing behind you

This leaves me asking myself some questions, namely how popular will this browser become?  Furthermore, how popular will the incognito browsing become?  I'm hoping there are some affiliate marketers out there that are much larger than I that will be able to track such things, as far as impact on their daily/weekly/monthly earnings.

The only light is that the cookies will remain effective for as long as the user has the window open.  However as soon as said Google Chrome user abandons that window and moves along, that cookie is lost.  So, if you are not getting immediate buyers with your sites, you can kiss those commissions goodbye.  In terms of programs like eBay where a cookie length will be up to 7 days, count only earning 1/7 of your existing revenue, in regards to visitors using Google Chrome.

Hopefully this won't have any impact at all, or at least not much of one anyway.  Chances are 'Incognito' mode in Google Chrome won't be used for anything other than surfing porn anyway.  Keep that surfing history away from your spouse. ;)
