Adsense Junkies
Well, recently I found out that I’m not the only person addicted to knowing the most up to date stats on my Adsense account. So much in fact that I will almost routinely check my account every half hour and at the least, every hour. My job and home life allows me to do this, within reason and of course I have to sleep sometimes.
If your like me and looking for a little relief, you need this Adsense Notifier plugin for Firefox. This plugin ads a notifier in the bottom right hand corner of your FireFox browser which can report on everything from your clicks and earnings to your CTR. It’s easy to customize and you can have to set to check your stats every 15 mins, without the hassle of logging in.
Highly recommended and here is what another junkie had to say:
Many thanks for making this extremely useful extension, specially because now Firefox 2.0 has trouble remembering adsense login info, it doesn’t even offer to remember it. Now with this amazingly simple extension, I’m logged in automatically, all the time!
Virus Squirt…sounds dirty.
Zune, Microsofts answer to the iPod has received a very unwelcome response over this past week. Although costing the same, $250, the Zune offers but one feature the iPod does not, Squirting. lol, what an mmmtarded name.
After perusing through some mp3 player reviews and professional opinion columns I started paying closer attention to the user commented sections. The actual users had a lot more to say than the regurgitating opinion columnists.
So why is it when there’s a pro-Apple product review the reviewer is somehow biased? Five reasons why the iPod is better than the Zune:
1. The iPod’s been around long enough to work out some of the initial kinks in the earlier iPods. Zune is first generation and will improve.
2. The scrolling wheel. Why try to “copy” it when you can’t? Zune designers should have considered a creative alternative.
3. Podcasts. I listen to more podcasts than music. Apple’s always enriching the pot of downloadables: music, video, podcasts, and now games. Zune doesn’t support podcasts.
4. Squirting? Zune’s big feature? I’m just waiting to see if the Zune becomes as big a virus target as every other Microsoft product. If so, they’ve built in the mechanism for disaster in the very first model. How long before people are (unknowingly) “squirting” Zune viruses at each other?
5. A song on iTunes is 99 cents. There’s no “Apple Bucks” or “iTunes Points.” No initial sum required. iTunes works on Macs and PCs. It’s simple and easy. Yet someone at Microsoft looked at that and said, “no… I’ve got a better idea.” Microsoft abhors simple logic. They built their music empire upon the name Zune…but take a look at zune.com. Did no one think to buy this domain?
Thank you so much Molly_Maine who commented on SFGate.com. That comment and many more like it can be found as you scroll down, which to me holds more weight than what the paid writers have to say.
Commission Junction Must Reads
I consider myself fairly fluent in the art of maximizing my clickthroughs for contextual advertising. However, as of late, I’ve been focusing my efforts on affiliate marketing and it’s really starting to payoff. After doing my research I’ve decided to go with a couple of different programs, making sure I was within my Google terms of service, that I could run alongside my Adsense.
Commission Junction is an affiliate network that I feel, I can grow with and expand my webmaster horizons with. As noted previously, I am somewhat a noob to affiliate marketing and my business model may not be optimal for affiliate marketing. In addition, Publisher business models will vary depending on which site I’m utilizing. Landing pages, opt-in newsletters, conversion factors oh my! Ultimately, I feel a little over my head and I’m not ashamed to admit that I completely read through Commission Junction University’s Beginner Series. There is a lot of information to consider before jumping feet first…or perhaps things you should consider while trying to keep your head above water.
The biggest thing I took away from the articles was the differences in business models and which ones I wanted to focus on. After all, there are affiliate marketing plans that work because they get exit traffic, not because you keep visitors on your site.
There is an old advertising adage that says, “Sell the sizzle, not the steak.” People buy benefits, not products or services. As you begin to look at advertiser promotions and offers you can decide if they will benefit your audience. It all comes back to knowledge– the more information you have, the better decisions you can make. Remember, you want to provide value to your users. By offering them products or services that they perceive as valuable, you will develop a relationship with them based on trust and experience. And they will want to return to your site for future purchases. Start doing your research on what will make your promotions “sizzle.”
I’m hoping by the end of the year I’ll be selling enough sizzle to pay off my credit card bills.

Kramer Goes Nuts
Michael Richards, whom played Kramer on Seinfield was recently filmed going nuts during one of his stand up routines. The video clearly shows Richards referring to a black member of the audience as a nigger and then continues to scream the word over and over and make references to what ‘would’ have happened 50 yrs ago to the black visitor.
Michael Richards Racism on YouTube
The problem with videos such as this is that it does not show what led Kramer to react like this. It only shows his reaction and not the cause, nor does it show what happened after he walked off of stage.
Sorry if you take offense to this posting, but my problem is that I have no beef with the word nigger. I would place the same weight on the word asshole as I would the word nigger…it’s just a word and its just an insult.
Things I Wish Would Take Off
The internet is a rapidly growing, evolving, monster that if your standing still, your over looked. 2 years ago when I first started online projects it was a snap to throw up a website and it would slowly develop itself. However, it seems that now more than ever if you stop developing, your dead and over looked.
The following sites or ideas are not dead, but perhaps remained stagnant for awhile. Each item listed I feel has great potential!
-XFL
Well, that’s all I got for now, but I know for a fact there are countless others. I suppose I just had an overwhelming feeling of nostalgia earlier perusing through some old posts on an old forum.
Makes me look at some projects that I’ve dropped along the way in favor of more profitable ones. I wonder what others have dropped in favor of ‘better’ ideas?
PS3 & Free Shipping
…for $99,999,999.00. Not a bad deal, especially considering you get free next day air saver.
At this point it’s safe to say that the auction will go into default and the poor seller will have to relist. It’s especially unfortunate considering the individual had been camping out since Oct 10th and planned the auction to end today, the launch of the system. Oh well, doesn’t really effect me since I won’t be buying one, nor anyone that will be able to afford one till the price drops.
The good news is that there are plenty of other listings on eBay where you can get a PS3 and even a game for still under $3,000. With 20mins left in most of these auctions it stands to reason these prices will be the norm until Sony ups their production. Oh how I love supply and demand.
Live from the Space Station in HD
Earlier this morning the Discovery HiDef Theater had a half-hour special live from Space Station. The first HD live broadcast from space and I was left needing more and wondering why they only made if a half hour long. Nevertheless, the broadcast was full of neat visuals inside the station, and orange juice bubbles are always fun.
What was truly upsetting was the lack of exterior shots or views of Earth from space. It’s neat to see how the astronauts work out and their lab, but what about seeing the Earth…from SPACE!!!111 There was obvious lag, which is expected, but somebody slap the naut and tell him to point the camera out the window . For some reason in the half hour live episode we only saw 2 seconds of actual space footage.
The brief moment we were rewarded with a shot of the earth from the tiny space station windows we were subjected to the announcers dumb ass comments. Apparently Africa looks like ocean from space, in HD, if your high! Oh well, no one is perfect and things like that are expected live. All in all, I hope there is more to come and perhaps at a better in a better time frame, luckily I’ve got a dual tuner DVR. ![]()
My Latest Surf Crap Visits
Unfortunately I find it very difficult to stay focused at the computer very long. I’ll logon in hopes of finishing up one of my sites, making some forum posts, or working in PS, but inevitably I end up surfing. Below is a few of the sites that grabbed my attention in the last few days and thought others might enjoy.

January 30th, 07 Vista Day
Looks like the long awaited retail release of Windows Vista will be the end of January of 07. The OS, which took about 5 years to create, is supposedly going to be “rock solid”. Please excuse me if I’m a bit skeptical.
Too help keep sales moving for big name computer developers like Dell/Gateway, Windows offers a free or discounted upgrade cost for any computers bought between now and January 30th. Toward the last few days of January all new computers will be preloaded with the Vista OS. Lucky us, I guess it’s gonna be time to upgrade…again.
For many P2P users the Vista or LongHorn edition of the Windows OS has been readily available. For the past year or more different versions of the OS have been available on bittorrent, newsgroups, etc… Third party applications have been somewhat slow to support the OS, but now that we have an official launch hopefully developers will get a move on.
