Nails New Dog

That’s right, I finally went against everything I ever stood for, broke down, and brought home a dog. I adopted it 3 days ago at the local humane society and the bitch has already cost me over $100. oh well, she’s a sweet heart and is already trained. ;)

Her original name was Baby, but my wife didn’t care for it too much, therefore we compromised with Baby Coco. lol For what it’s worth this has got to be one of the sweetest dogs alive, she loves car rides, and sleeping next to me while I work on the computer. But, enough about the boring shit, here come the dog pictures.

Schizophrenia in Me

As some of you are aware I work developing a number of websites. One of my most successful sites is my Link Directory, which receives thousands of views and submissions per month. This Link Network consists of the link directory, directory blog, and an article directory. The newest addition is the article directory, which has just recently started receiving consistent submissions.

Today, I received a submission from an indivdiual looking to build backlinks for health related sites, specifically ones dealing with schizophrenia. Not only did this individual submit one article, but more than 5 directly related to schizophrenia diagnosis, schizophrenia treatment, and basically everything you need to know about schizophrenia.

Today, schizophrenia is a disease that can be successfully treated, but witch has no cure. To find the cure, the scientists must find out the cause of schizophrenia, and more and more researches are made in this way.

For more information on the causes of schizophrenia and other diseases check out the disease article category in the directory. Building backlinks by writing articles is a proven way to increase your sites position in search engines. Start by applying to be an author at the Blackfox Article Directory.

Keyword Tracking

I’ve used a number of keyword trackers, which indicate your ranking in SERPs(Search Engine Results Page). However, the service that offers the fastest results and unlimited keywords is Digital Points own free tool.

The Keyword Ranking Monitor will record your results on a daily basis across Yahoo, Google, and MSN. In addition to providing your rank it is also able to track your results in a graph and did I mention it was FREE.

If your considering doing any SEO, then this tool is a must have. It definatley helps qualify your efforts, instead of just guessing at traffic. Be sure to check out what else they have over there as well, more goodies than you can shake a stick at. One word of warning, use their Free Advertising at your own risk.

Streamcast Found Guilty

Streamcast, owners and creators of the p2p network morpheus, were found guilty yesterday in encouraging copyright infringement.

“In the record before the court, evidence of StreamCast’s unlawful intent is overwhelming,” Wilson wrote.

Big Bully takes on Big Piracy, but does a court ruling solve piracy? I think this is just another smoke and mirrors game with the RIAA/MPAA to take attention off of the real issue. They are still putting out crap music, crap movies and wonder why sales are falling.

Fuck the RIAA, Fuck the MPAA, this fecal use of the judicial system pisses me off.

Azureus 2.5.0.0 Released

Did you mis the Azureus update? (I did.) The latest Azureus package was released on 8-22-06 and is ready for the p2p crowd consumption. I would imagine we will see updates much faster since uTorrent and Azureus are apparently at each others throats.

Who has the best bittorrent software?

1. What’s new in Azureus 2.5.0.0

1.1 Send to Friend
A wizard to simplify sending a link to content to a friend or to embed in a web page (e.g. a blog).1.2 Auto upload speed
This feature controls your upload speed based on the latency of your internet connection as gauged by pinging other members of the Distributed Database.

1.3 Other new features

  • OSX: Open .torrent files into Azureus via Finder/Desktop/etc.
  • ‘Do not download’ files handled more consistently with respect to download completion.
  • Renaming of a download directories.
  • Moving of data files on torrent removal from Azureus.
  • Signed updates and plugins for improved security.
  • Interface improvements – more information: date added, idle times, new info view, file piece view; more per-torrent options.
  • Debug information generator.
  • More in the changelog.

Don’t forget to check the plugins – http://azureus.sourceforge.net/plugin_list.php
New remote control plugin – AzSMRC

1.4 Bug fixes and performance improvements
Notable fixes:

  • LAN Peer Finder retains peers more effectively; explicit LAN peer identification.
  • Reduced CPU usage when connected to large numbers of peers.

I loves me some new p2p updates and hopefully the competition between uTorrent and Azureus will be a good for everyone involved.

Snakebite Bittorrent Tracker

Drag-n-drop bittorrent tracker?

Snakebite is the world’s first drag-and-drop auto torrent seeder that makes sharing files over Bittorrent easier than ever before.

Get your home brewed torrent tracker via SnakeBite. On a side note, I would never, ever, ever use such a program.  I’ve not gone into the server requirements for this quick install application, but running a torrent site requires a lot of resources.

If your looking to have a bit of fun, this might be for you. However, if your serious about building a torrent site, use the tried and trusted protocols. There is no such thing as a free lunch and there is no such thing as an easy torrent tracker install. ;)

DRM Bad for Bittorrent

BroadBandReports.com reported yesterday about Ashwin Navin’s, President of Bit Torrent, interview with IDG News Service. Ashwin states what has been obvious to us all for years, DRM is bad for BitTorrent! Duh?!

The interview goes on to talk about steps that Bit Torrent is taking to legitimize the industry. Talking on such topics as cacheing torrents and working with ISP’s to NOT throttle the protocol.

I think this is exactly what Shawn refers to as the Pyramid of Piracy.

Limewire Sues RIAA

Yesterday p2p software developer LimeWire countersued the RIAA, on the basis of anticompetitive behavior. LimeWire is demanding almost $476 million for damages and claiming that the RIAA is attempting to develop a monopoly over digital distribution.

The alleged unfair business practices include collusion among the record companies to price their licensing rates in such a way that independent music sellers can’t afford to stay in business, LimeWire said.

High licensing fees, power hungry, and threatening smaller businesses creates a very strong case against the Music Bully. It would seem that the p2p community is finally rallying it’s troops and ready to fight back. Thank God.

Shawn Hogan vs MPAA

Today I found out that the owner of a forum I frequent is involved in a MPAA lawsuit. Shawn Hogan, owner of the Digital Point webmaster forums, is currently going through litigation with the MPAA.

What’s unique is that DP is extremely popular, receiving hundreds of thousands of hits per day, which makes Shawn a wealthy individual. Therefore Shawn is fighting the bully’s in hopes that it goes to trial and he’s already refused 2 counts of settlement. In addition, Shawn has been offered support from a number of lawyers and investors looking to further his cause and refusal to settle on principle.

The MPAA has finally picked on the wrong individual, someone that already has a captivated audience and the financial means to fight. I’d suggest anyone to follow what Shawn Hogan has to say in the case on his blog. Check out all of his MPAA related posts here. View the hundreds of comments to see how much support he’s receiving…simply amazing.

Ubuntu or not to Ubuntu, Pt 2

This post is in regards to me installing the Linux distro Ubuntu on my primary PC, as referenced first here. Thankfully I have not thrown my monitor out the window yet, however I have not completed the installation. As recommended, I am trying the Live CD before going for a full install.

The Ubuntu Live CD(64bit Version) runs fantastic except for one major flaw, which prohibits me from going full installation. It will not recognize my wireless card! Let me correct myself, it sees it, but it won’t use it. According to the forums and onboard help I must hold my tounge a certain way, walk backwards across broken beer bottles, and click the forward mouse button to get the wireless card to work.

Ubuntu is getting 1 more week worth of evaluation. If by the end of this week I cannot get the wireless card recognized, it will be no more Linux…ever.
